Philly Man Put Gun to Heads of 2 Women: Police

A Philadelphia man is in custody after he allegedly pointed a gun at the heads of two women during an argument in Palmyra, according to police.

Palmyra Police said one of the victims had been arguing with the man’s girlfriend—Jillian Cheatom, 34, of Philadelphia—via text message throughout the day Wednesday. Cheatom wanted to fight the victim, who was unidentified, but the victim refused to entertain the fight.

Cheatom later showed up at a home on the 100 block of East Broad Street to confront the victim, with her boyfriend, 43-year-old Maurice Hammond, in tow, police said. An agitated Hammond pointed a revolver at the victim’s head, as well as the head of her friend, who lived in the home, according to police.

The resident ran inside and called police, while Cheatom and Hammond fled the scene. The Burlington County Bridge Commission Police stopped their vehicle in one of the toll lanes at the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge, and Palmyra Police arrived soon after to investigate.

Hammond gave police permission to search his vehicle, at which point they observed the wooden grip of the revolver, according to a report. The loaded weapon was seized and both Cheatom and Hammond were taken into custody.

Hammond was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was lodged in Burlington County Jail on $50,000 bail.
