Democratic Challenger Shoots Ahead In Cinnaminson Twp. Committee Election

Dr. Corinne Taylor-Walls could become the town's first elected Democrat in decades. But mail-in ballots could shift the results.

CINNAMINSON, NJ — The Democratic candidate took the lead Thursday in the Cinnaminson Township Committee election after more mail-in ballots were tallied in the tight race.

Dr. Corinne Taylor-Walls now has 3,947 votes, putting her 61 votes ahead of Republican incumbent Stephanie Kravil.

Taylor-Walls, a health care administrator and first-time candidate, ended Election Day down 30 votes. But she made up ground over the past two days through mail-in ballots that were received after the election. She trailed by only four votes after additional ballots were counted Wednesday.

It could take days or even weeks to determine a winner in a race this close. Here are some key dates that could impact the results:

Nov. 10: Deadline for Receiving Mail-In Ballots

Mail-in ballots must be sent by the time polls close, so a good amount can come in after Election Day.

Election officials will count all timely mailed ballots that they receive by the deadline of 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10.

It's unknown how many mail-in ballots are still out there for Cinnaminson, but it's more than enough to impact a race this close.

Mail-in ballots are distributed before elections by request. Election officials sent out 2,399 to Cinnaminson voters for this election, according to the Burlington County Clerk's Office.

Election officials received 1,919 mail-in ballots back as of Wednesday, including 142 that still needed to be processed. That leaves up to 480 mail-in ballots that could still be on their way, but it's unknown how many of those residents actually voted by mail.

So essentially, somewhere between 142 and 622 mail-in ballots could impact the race.

Nov. 19: Deadline for Certifying Elections, Counting Provisional Ballots

This is the deadline for the Burlington County Clerk's Office to certify the results, which will also include final determinations on provisional ballots.

There were 98 provisional ballots issued at Cinnaminson polling locations on Election Day, according to the county clerk's office. In the coming days, election officials must verify them so they can be counted.

Despite the Nov. 19 deadline, election officials often complete this work beforehand. But if the Township Committee election remains close enough after mail-in ballots are tallied, the provisional ballots could decide the race.

Nov. 22: Deadline for Recount Applications

Candidates can request a recount up to three days after election results are certified, so the latest possible time to request would be Nov. 22.

Nov. 24: Deadline to Transmit Official Election Results to the Secretary Of State

Even if this election were to get a recount, this process would need to get wrapped up by Nov. 24.

Keep in mind, this is the timeline for all races in the 2025 General Election — not just the closest contests.
