Clark Man, 20, Dies After 8 Hospitalized In Crash: Prosecutor

CLARK, NJ -- Michael Sot, 20, a College of New Jersey math major from Clark, died from his injuries on Tuesday after he and seven other people were involved in a head-on two-car crash this weekend, police said. One friend said Sot was the designated driver for one of the cars.

A charge of vehicular homicide has been added against David Lamar, 22, of West Windsor, according Mercer County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Casey A. DeBlasio.

Lamar had been charged with seven counts of assault-by-auto after the investigation revealed that he operated a motor vehicle while impaired at 2:07 a.m. on Sunday when he struck another car, police said. Read more: Victims ID'd: 8 People, Including TCNJ Students, In Head-On Crash

Five of the victims are members of The College of New Jersey community, and 4 of the people affected are members of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, according to William Walker, the fraternity's president, who set up a GoFundMe page for the victims.

Those college students were Danielle DeFlores, 21, an open-options major from Brick; Matthew DeGenova, 21, an accounting major from Wall Township; Anthony Galante, 19, a finance major from North Bellmore, NY; Ryan Moore, 21, a marketing major from Midland Park; and Sot, Walker said.

Sot was a designated driver for the night who happened to get into an accident with the other car, Walker said.

Lamar was traveling southbound at 1817 Pennington Road in Ewing Township in a black 2018 Kia Optima when his vehicle crossed over the double yellow lines, striking a 2007 Dodge Charger that was traveling northbound. There were a total of two people in the Kia and six people in the Dodge.

The crash happened near The College of New Jersey.

Overall, eight people were hospitalized in the crash and six were listed as being in critical condition Injuries in the crash included broken bones, a ruptured bladder and a brain injury, according to police.

On Monday, the Ewing Township police said those in critical condition include a 20-year-old male, a 19-year-old male and a.21-year-old male. Those in stable condition include a 21-year-old female, a 21-year-old female and a 22-year-old male.

Those released from the hospital were a 21-year-old male and a 22-year-old male, police said.

Three of the passengers were transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Langhorne, Pa., and five passengers were taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, according to police.

Responding officers encountered multiple occupants who were trapped in the two vehicles. Ewing Fire Stations 30, 31, and 33 responded and freed the victims.
