Funeral Set For Clark 'Designated Driver' Who Died In Crash

Star baseball player and loved by all, Michael Thomas Sot, 20, of Clark "always put others before himself."

CLARK, NJ — Funeral arrangements have been set for Michael Thomas Sot, 20, of Clark, who was serving as a designated driver for his friends when he was killed in a head-on two-car crash this weekend by an alleged impaired driver and hospitalized eight people.

Sot had suffered "head trauma that required surgery, a punctured lung, fractures of L4/5 vertebrae and many broken bones," according to William Walker, the Phi Kappa Psi's president, who set up a GoFundMe page for Sot and other The College of New Jersey victims of the crash.

Born in Livingston on Nov. 19, 1998 to Candice Buno-Sot and Michael Sot, Sot graduated from Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark where he was a star baseball player and member of the National Honor Society.

Sot had dreams of becoming an actuary as he majored in math at TCNJ. He was sophomore and a member of The Phi Kappa Psi National Fraternity.

"Those that knew Michael remember him as an individual that would always put others before himself. He was a trusted and a caring friend to all, and always did the right thing," his obituary at Higgins and Bonner in Westfield stated.

Sot is survived by his mother, Candice Buno Sot, his father, Michael Edward Sot; younger brothers Jon Sot and Matthew Sot, sister Jessica Sot and step- brother Frankie Fabio; step-mother Jana Fabio; grandparents Jasmin and Tom Buno, and Carolyn and Ed Sot. His many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services for Sot will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m., at the Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home in Westfield.

The family is requesting that friends attending the Funeral Mass which will be held at St. John the Apostle Church in Clark on Monday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. to meet at the church.

The driver in the other car, David Lamar, 22, of West Windsor, involved in the crash is currently being held in the Mercer County Correction Center in Hopewell.

Lamar now faces a charge of vehicular homicide after Sot died from his injuries on Tuesday at 12:45 p.m., according Mercer County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Casey A. DeBlasio. Lamar also faces seven counts of assault-by-auto.

The detention hearing for Lamar has been moved to Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 1:30 p.m. 400 South Warren Street, Trenton on the second floor. (See Related: Impaired Driver Was Trying To Pass Cars Before Crash: Police)
