Girl Missing For Weeks In Union County Found Safe, Police Say

GARWOOD, NJ — Juvenile Ivy Alave has been found safe after being missing for weeks in Union County.

She was found in a wooded area in Hudson County after officials spoke with a man who was identified as a person of interest in the case.

The man had been seen with Alave on multiple occasions and was taken into custody by another agency on an unrelated matter.

Officers were able to find Alave unharmed and safe using the information they got while interviewing the man.

She was taken to receive medical attention as a precaution and has since been reunited with her family, Garwood Police say.

A vigil was held for Alave on Sept. 10 after she was last seen by her parents on Sept. 4, telling them that she was going to a Starbucks in Westfield.

Surveillance video had shown her near 17 N. Ave. W in Cranford, and at Newark Penn Station that same afternoon.

Along with help from the NJ Transit Police and Amtrak Police, numerous witness statements also aided officials in their search.
