Massive Fire Breaks Out At Union Co. Waste Management Facility: Report
One person has been reported missing after the large fire broke out, and surrounding homes were asked to evacuate, according to ABC7.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A massive five-alarm fire erupted at at a waste management facility in Elizabeth Tuesday afternoon, according to ABC7.
Video shows plumes of black smoke spewing from the Waste Management Julia Street Transfer Station located at 864 Julia Street in Elizabeth after the fire broke out around 2 p.m.
ABC7 said one person is reported missing as of 4:57 p.m. The local fire department told ABC7 that the fire may have started from machinery inside the building.

Smoke also spread into the surrounding community, due to winds, and nearby houses were asked to evacuate, according to ABC7.
Julia Street has been shut down for a large stretch between Division Street and Route 1 due to the fire.

Despite the fire's proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport, there is currently no impact to operations at the airport, according to its Twitter post.
