Police: Drunken Man Fights With Officers Trying to Break Up Argument

Jersey City man faces disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault on an officer charges.

A Garwood police officer injured his back and knee while trying to apprehend a drunk and disorderly man, according to police reports. 

While on patrol on the night of Nov. 10, Officer Jeff Kleinsorgen reported an argument in progress on the 200 Block of North Avenue. After investigating, Kleinsorgen reported one man was highly intoxicated and got out of the vehicle he was riding in after arguing with other passengers. 

While patrol was separating the man, Mario Gerges, 23, of Jersey City, and the other person who was involved in the argument, Gerges became aggressive toward Kleinsorgen, Sgt. Mario Morelli and Officer Scott Eriksen, according to the report. 

When an attempt was made to take Gerges into custody, he began fighting with the officers and during the altercation, Sgt. Morelli injured his back and knee, according to the report.

Gerges was taken into custody and was transported to headquarters where he was processed and charged with three counts of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault on an officer. Bail was set at $10,000. Gerges was able to post bail and was released with a court date.
