Police: Thieves Attempt to Steal ATM in Union County

Police reported suspects tried stealing an automated teller machine from a Cranford bank Wednesday morning.

Police reported an attempted ATM theft at a Union County bank Wednesday morning, March 11.

Cranford Police responded to a TD Bank, 465 East South Ave. in Cranford, after TD Bank security personnel reported multiple suspects attempting to pull the ATM from the building using chains and a pickup truck, according to Cranford Police.

The suspects fled the scene in a dark colored Jeep, abandoning the pickup truck, after police converged on the TD Bank. Police reported they pursued the Jeep on Centennial and North avenues to the Garden State Parkway northbound, but terminated the pursuit near Union toll plaza because of safety concerns due to fog and wet road conditions.
