Student With Handgun At Clark High School Arrested

Arthur L. Johnson High School was placed on lockdown after reports of a student carrying a handgun. Police said the school is now safe.

CLARK, NJ — A student with a handgun at Arthur L. Johnson High School was reported to Clark Police at around 10 a.m. on Friday.

The high school was immediately placed on lockdown and Clark Officers took the student into custody and found the firearm, said police.

"There were no indications of threats or harm to the school, students or personnel during the incident and the school is considered safe and secure, said police.

The student was arrested and charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and third-degree unlawful possession of a firearm in an educational institution.

All students will be taken to the Township Municipal Building at 430 Westfield Ave. Parents are asked not to go to school. Instead, police will notify them when they are permitted to pick their children up.

Members of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Union County Police Department and Union County Sheriff’s Office also went to the school to help in making sure the school was safe and secure, according to Clark Police.
