15 People Homeless After Four-Alarm Fire In Union County
Some broke windows and jumped out to escape the fire.
ELIZABETH, NJ A four-alarm fire in Elizabeth on Nov. 22 left more than 10 people homeless, city spokesperson Ruby Contreras said.
Shortly after 9 a.m., officials responded to a report of a fire at 323 Stiles Street after a witness had noticed smoke coming from the duplex and called 911.
Six residents were left with minor injuries, according to Contreras. The Red Cross said they are helping 15 people who are now homeless.

According to witnesses, multiple people had to jump out of windows to safely get out of the building.
"When I exited with my daughter, [other residents] were breaking the window and jumping out," resident Demi Delacruz told CBS News. "It was definitely an emotional time, and luckily everybody was able to get out."

Video from a nearby doorbell camera appeared to show a man with outstretched arms preparing to catch someone or something that left one of the windows.
"I just ran. I was like, I didn't know what to expect, I didn't know what I was gonna see," neighbor Charlene Bathelus added. "It's a lot. It's a lot. It's very unfortunate."
The fire was brought under control in about three hours, officials said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
