CRANFORD, NJ — Renovations have begun at the Cranford Theater after its roof collapsed on April 30.

The space is now being reworked into a multi-use community space. Management says film festivals, comedy shows, live music, book readings, and more will join the regular movie showings.

"My goal is to create a place where people of all ages can come together, be entertained, and make lasting memories," says owner Doreen Sayegh. She goes on to say that working through insurance has delayed the process of reopening, but they are now cleared to move forward fully with their rebuild.

First responders arrived on April 30 and found an active ceiling collapse in the theater, which was open and operational at the time. Everyone had already escaped safely, and no injuries were reported.

The reason for the collapse is still unclear. Patch has reached out for more information.

"To our loyal patrons, neighbors, and friends: your love and support over these last few months has been the fuel that has kept me fighting and working harder to bring you the beautiful new Cranford Theater you deserve," Doreen added.

The date for reopening is yet to be determined, though management says they anticipate it will be late this year.

The Cranford Theater is located at 25 North Ave. W.
