Cigarettes, Vehicle Stops, Crosswalks Lead to Arrests

Cranford police activity from January 26-31.

Cranford police arrest suspects after they allegedly sold cigarettes to juveniles, drove without a front license plate or with an unlit brake light, and failed to cross the street at a crosswalk. Details:

Tuesday, January 26:
Officer Matthew Nazzaro arrested a 21-year-old from Cranford for selling cigarettes to two juvenile females fronting the Krauszer's on South Avenue at 4:43 p.m. A citizen witnessed this transaction and notified police.

Officer John Rattigan stopped a vehicle on North Avenue at Carpenter Place for not having a front license plate at 11:34 p.m.. Through further investigation, the 26-year-old driver from Elizabeth was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was also issued summonses for driving while uninsured, driving an unregistered vehicle, for having fictitious plates and careless driving.

Wednesday, January 27:
Rattigan stopped a vehicle on North Avenue East for a motor vehicle violation at 8:11 p.m. Subsequent to the stop the 21-year-old driver from Cranford was arrested for a warrant out of Palisades Park. Through further investigation, she was also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

Thursday, January 28:
Officer Eugene Perrotta stopped a vehicle on North and Forest avenues for driving the wrong way on a one way street at 10:59 p.m. Subsequent to the stop, the 59-year-old driver from Roselle Park was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with careless driving and driving the wrong way.

Saturday, January 30:
Officer Timothy O'Brien stopped a vehicle on North Avenue East for a having a brake light out at 12:11 p.m. Through further investigation, the 33-year-old driver from Greenbrook was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, CDS in a motor vehicle and summons for a brake light out.

Sunday, January 31:
O'Brien observed a vehicle pull into the area of Warner Plaza, near the train station at 9:10 a.m. The car parked in the lot and the driver and passenger exited the vehicle. Both subjects crossed the street, but the 47-year-old driver of the vehicle from Roselle Park did not utilize the crosswalk to cross. O' Brien approached the individual and through further investigation arrested him for driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with failure to utilize a crosswalk.
