Cranford Issues Guidance As Hurricane Henri Nears
Cranford's OEM warned of "poor drainage and low lying areas as well as the potential for minor to moderate river flooding." Track it here.

CRANFORD, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for all of Union County through Monday as well as a tropical storm warning for eastern Union County due to Hurricane Henri, which is expected to make landfall on Long Island. Cranford's Office of Emergency Management said Saturday afternoon, "There is a high degree of confidence that our area will be impacted by this storm. The main threat as of now will be heavy rainfall causing widespread flash flooding of poor drainage and low lying areas as well as the potential for minor to moderate river flooding."

While some may consider flash floods just an inconvenience, these floods have proved fatal to drivers (sometimes trapping parents and children) and people near even small streams.
Severe storms are becoming more frequent. In fact, Hurricane Elsa in July 2021 was the earliest E-named storm in modern weather history.
