Cranford Police Purchase Pet Microchip Reader
Residents can have their precious pooch returned earlier thanks to the technological upgrade.
CRANFORD, NJ - Those with lost pets might seem them returned faster as the Cranford Police Department has invested in an Omni Max Pet Chip Reader.
The microchip reader will allow Cranford Police to more quickly determine if a found animal has a microchip and, if so, obtain the owners information. In the past Cranford has utilized the services of local veterinarians.
Since purchasing the device, the department has used it multiple times, the first two times on separate stray dogs that both had microchips.

"We were able to quickly identify the owners and get them home," officials said.
Police noted it is a great time to make sure the contact information is up to date with their chip vendor. Those who are unsure of their chip vendor are encouraged to stop by police headquarters and and the department will assist in getting the information.
