CRANFORD, NJ — Cranford Public School District Officials are alerting parents to a recent hate incident in Hillside Avenue School.
A pencil drawn swastika was discovered in the upper corner of a classroom cabinet in the school. The police were notified, and the investigation is ongoing, according to school officials.
The district released a statement that reads in part:

"We are incredibly saddened by this act and stand firm in our conviction that all acts of hate or hate language are unacceptable. Any form of discrimination based on race, color, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, disability or any other category protected by state or federal law will not be tolerated. Cranford Public Schools will promptly report, investigate and respond to all allegations of discrimination, including harassment and retaliation, to the fullest extent possible and take appropriate disciplinary, corrective, and remedial measures necessary to ensure a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment for all."
