Cranford Wall Collapse And Other NJ Flood Videos Are Shared Around World After Ida

Dramatic footage of a basement wall collapsing in Cranford amid Hurricane Ida has been shared on news outlets around the world.

CRANFORD, NJ — After Tropical Depression Ida caused millions of dollars in damage to Union County, news outlets are sharing dramatic videos and stills of the sudden flooding, particularly two videos from Cranford. One video taken in Cranford shows a young man walking through his basement. Soon after, floodwaters force down the wall and fill the room, a dangerous situation.

Another video shows four people in Cranford making their way from their home onto a life raft amid flooding.

Last Friday, Gov. Phil Murphy announced that Union County is among four New Jersey counties that will be eligible for a second round of funding. Officials in all four counties were frustrated last week when their cities and towns were left off the initial list.

Communities near or containing rivers, such as Cranford and Summit, were under a flood warning for days after the storm dissipated.

The flooding and death toll was covered by the BBC, Reuters, and other international media. The BBC and international outlets also showed videos and photos of flooding in Manville.
