Flood Watch Warning Issued For Union County: NWS

Heavy rain and possible flooding are forecasted for Union County Monday night. See details from the National Weather Service below.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A strong coastal storm is headed to Union County Monday night, and the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the county.

The NWS predicts possible flooding in the area due to heavy rainfall beginning at 10 p.m. Monday and continuing into Tuesday morning.

The storm is expected to hit northeast New Jersey and portions of southeast New York, including Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of small rivers, creeks and streams, according to the NWS. Flooding may also occur un urban, low lying and poor drainage areas.

The NWS advises residents to monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Here is the full forecast for Monday night and Tuesday morning, according to the NWS:

Monday Night

Rain, mainly after 8pm. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 41. Breezy, with a northeast wind 16 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Tuesday

A chance of rain before noon, then a slight chance of showers between noon and 2pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 54. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 19 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
