Fraud & Identity Theft Presentation To Be Held By Cranford Police

Cranford PD has partnered with the United States Secret Service to give a presentation on fraud and identity theft in the Community Center.

CRANFORD, NJ — The Cranford Police Department, along with the United States Secret Service, will give a special presentation on fraud and identity theft this month.

The presentation, entitled "Protect and Prevent from Identity Theft," will be held Monday, Feb, 27 at 6 p.m. at the Cranford Community Center.

The keynote presenter will be United States Secret Service Agent Scott Keenan.

"Identity Theft continues to be the fastest growing crime in the United States," Cranford Police wrote in an announcement. "The more you learn, the less vulnerable you are."

A recent scam occurred in Cranford when a resident was involved in a "grandparent scam." They told police that an individual identifying themselves as a New York Prosecutor’s Office had their grandchild in police custody.

The U.S Secret Service will explain the different types of identity theft at the event, as well as how to recognize it and how to prevent it. Attendees will also receive tips for safeguarding personal information and how to spot red flags and scams.
