• Barking Dogs Scare Off Holiday Intruders In Cranford, Police Say (patch.com) — Cranford police say two attempted home break-ins on Christmas morning were thwarted when barking dogs scared off would-be intruders on Cranford Avenue and Elizabeth Avenue. With car thefts also rising in nearby towns, Cranford residents are urged to lock vehicles and homes, remove key fobs from cars, check security cameras, and report suspicious activity or share surveillance footage with local detectives.

• Union County Commissioners Say Farewell to Kowalski, Granados (tapinto.net) — A longtime Cranford-based Union County commissioner, Bette Jane Kowalski, is retiring after more than 21 years of work that included advocacy for Cranford’s transit, parks, and flood control. Fellow commissioner Sergio Granados is also departing the board, which will swear in new members and a new chair on January 1 as leadership shifts for 2026.
   

• Horner nets 3 goals, Hillsborough takes win against Cranford - Boys ice hockey recap (nj.com subscription) — Cranford High’s boys ice hockey team fell 7-1 to Hillsborough at Flemington Ice Arena, despite striking first on a goal by Patrick McComb. Cranford goalie Evan Ramos faced heavy pressure, making 28 saves, while Brody Horner’s hat trick powered Hillsborough’s comeback and eventual rout.
