Police Arrest Sleeping Bicyclist, Drunken Drivers
Cranford police activity from March 2-7.

Cranford police made a slew of drug and alcohol arrests last week, including one that involved a sleeping bicyclist from Elizabeth. Details:
Wednesday, March 3:
Officer Tim O'Brien observed suspicious activity inside a parked vehicle while patrolling the Union County College parking lot at 12:52 p.m. Through further investigation, the 19-year-old driver from Perth Amboy was arrested for possession of marijuana, CDS paraphernalia and CDS in a motor vehicle.
Thursday, March 4:
O'Brien observed a bicyclist blocking the sidewalk on North Avenue and Miln Street at 12:36 p.m. He appeared to be sleeping. Through further investigation the 43-year-old bicyclist from Elizabeth was arrested for creating a hazardous condition. He was also charged with possession of CDS Paraphernalia.

Friday, March 5:
Officer Dan Norton stopped a vehicle for a rear brake light out on Lincoln Avenue and High Street at 1:33 p.m. Through further investigation the 44-year-old driver from Roselle was arrested for driving while intoxicated, careless driving, and driving with a brake light out.
Officer Spencer Durkin stopped a vehicle at South Avenue and High Street at 11:54 p.m. because the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. The 31-year-old passenger from Elizabeth was arrested for an outstanding warrant for an active warrant from Union County Sheriff's Department. He was also charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Saturday, March 6:
Durkin stopped a vehicle on Centennial Avenue and Raritan Road for careless driving at 3:45 p.m. Through further investigation the 23-year-old passenger of the vehicle from Linden was arrested for possession of marijuana and CDS paraphernalia.
Durkin stopped a vehicle on North Avenue West for driving with extensive front end damage at 8:30 p.m. Through further investigation the 36-year-old driver from Cranford was arrested for possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
Officer Eugene Perrotta stopped a vehicle at South Avenue and Lincoln Ave East at 9:02 p.m. for driving with a tail light out and with a passenger not wearing a seatbelt. Through further investigation the driver 59-year-old driver from East Stroudsburg, Pa. was arrested for driving while intoxicated and driving while suspended. He was also issued a summons for having a taillight out. The 60-year-old passenger from Plainfield was issued a summons for not wearing a seatbelt and was also arrested for a warrant out of Roselle.
Sunday, March 7:
Perrotta stopped a vehicle on South Avenue and Lincoln Avenue East for improper lane usage at 3:13 a.m. Through further investigation the 33-year-old driver from Elizabeth was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with refusal to submit breath tests, failure to turn, and careless driving.
