Suspect's Attempts to Not Get Arrested, Get Him Arrested
Cranford police activity from April 28 to May 4.

Whatever the charges, some suspects will try anything to get out of an arrest. One suspect encountered Cranford police last week, and was arrested just for trying to not get arrested. Details:
Wednesday, April 28:
Officer Spencer Durkin stopped a vehicle with a headlight out on Centennial Avenue near Raritan Road at 8:55 p.m. Through further investigation the 25-year-old driver from Newark was arrested for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and paraphernalia.
Thursday, April 29:
Durkin stopped a vehicle with no front license plate on Centennial Avenue at Hayes Street at 6:44 p.m. Through further investigation the driver from Chase City, Va., a passenger from Newark and another passenger from Rahway were arrested for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana. All three suspects are 20 years old. The passenger from Newark also received a charges for hindering his own apprehension.

Saturday, May 1:
Officer Eugene Perrotta stopped a vehicle on South Avenue and Lincoln Avenue West at 7:26 p.m. for driver not wearing his seatbelt. Through further investigation the 31-year-old driver from Roselle was arrested for outstanding warrants out of Newark. A 24-year-old rear passenger from Orange was arrested for hindering apprehension.
Sunday, May 2:
Officer John Rattigan responded to the Dunkin Donuts parking lot on North Avenue at 1:22 a.m. on report of a possible intoxicated driver. Rattigan arrested the 32-year-old Cranford driver for DWI, and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
