Celebration Of Life Of Jo Ann Magistro In East Brunswick On Wednesday

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – A memorial service will be held on Wednesday for former school Superintendent Jo Ann Magistro.

Called ‘The Celebration of the Extraordinary Life of Dr. Jo Ann Magistro’ the memorial will be held at the Jo Ann Magistro Performing Arts Center from 6:30 p.m. onwards. The event is open to the public.

Magistro died on Aug. 18, after a four-month battle with cancer. She was 78.

She was the first and only woman to be appointed as Superintendent of the school district. Under her leadership, the school district earned its “Blue Ribbon” status.

Magistro began her career at the school district in 1971 as a guidance counselor. She took up many roles in the district before becoming superintendent. She retired after the 2012-2013 school year.
