Chittick Students Head to the Final Frontier (VIDEO)

Students launch rockets as part of their fifth-grade science program.

Elementary schools throughout East Brunswick got a little closer to outer space this month when fifth-graders finally got outside to see the results of weeks of hard work and study.

The students took to the fields to launch real rockets as part of the fifth-grade science curriculum. The project has been a mainstay in the district for years, and one of the culminating events for fifth-graders.

As part of the project, fifth-graders study the science behind rockets – such as Newton’s Law of Physics, drag and lift - then build and launch their own.
