East Brunswick Will Get Funds From Opioid Lawsuit Settlement
East Brunswick will be getting a grant of $18,627 from New Jersey.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Several years ago New Jersey joined other states in a lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies for their involvement in the opioid epidemic.
The state is set to receive funds allocated from the settlement with all counties and around 200 townships receiving part of the settlement money.
East Brunswick will be getting a grant of $18,627 from New Jersey and the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse for the fiscal year 2024 grant period of July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.

The announcement was made by township attorney Michael Baker during Monday’s Council meeting.
The funds will be used in healthcare costs, officials said.

“The town is receiving $18,000 and change that represents the first two $9,000 or so from the opioid settlement,” Baker said.
“Those will continue to come into the town. And the purpose of it is to offset the additional costs that the town had in health care costs as a result of the opioid crisis.”
