Eight Families Without a Home Due to Fire

Fire destroyed a Cypress Lane building Wednesday morning.

Eight families who lived Cypress Lane in the Kingswood Station development saw .

According to Capt. Ron Sommer of , the initial alarm came in at about 7:50 a.m. and the fire was under control in an hour to an hour and a half.

Capt.  Sommer said the main unit had most of the fire damage, with the entire second story of unit 2600 suffering damage. Of the eight units in the building, four were damaged by fire, two have minor water damage and two have minor smoke and water damage.

“On arrival we had a fully involved structure on that corner of the building," said Capt. Sommer. “The fire wall contained the fire to that unit and the downstairs and adjacent units all have smoke and water damage.”

Emergency Management Coordinator Austin Kosik said it would be some time before the units are livable, but the displaced families found shelter for the night.

Police officials were on the scene until 4:30 p.m. until the restoration company came to secure the building. The fire is still under investigation.

All three fire districts in East Brunswick responded to the call, as did units from Spotswood. South River, Monroe, North Brunswick and New Brunswick provided coverage to East Brunswick while the local companies were working at the fire.
