ExpressCheck Machines to Be Installed at Library
Patrons will be able to pick up reserves, pay fines and fees and check out media without going to the circulation desk.

The will install two ExpressCheck machines next month, allowing customers to check out and renew books, pay fines and fees and pick up reserves all at the touch of a button and without waiting in line at the Circulation Desk.
The machines will be placed near the front of the library on Feb. 14, and library staff members are confident that customers will love the convenience and speed of ExpressCheck.
“Since the library serves such a wide range of customers, it is necessary for us to constantly offer a range of options for our residents,” said Library Director MaryEllen Firestone. “ExpressCheck machines allow customers to pay their fines and fees via credit/debit card, a major convenience that is long overdue and it allows those who are in a hurry to quickly check out their items and be on their way. People are busy and any convenience is always appreciated.

“The library waited many years to purchase express check out machines in order to ensure that the technology was sophisticated enough to check out both books and media,” said Firestone. “Our customers have asked for ExpressCheck since it is now used in so many retail outlets. The advantages are both speed and privacy. Our residents can now come in and pick out their selections or reserve items and quickly check them out and be on their way.”
There will be an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new ExpressCheck machines on Sunday, March 4, along with a festive Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, but residents are invited to drop in any time after February 14 for a demonstration and learn how fast and easy it is to ExpressCheck.
