(UPDATED) Power Outages, Wires Down Due to Storm (VIDEO)

East Brunswick Patch is getting reports of wires down on Ryders Lane, Tices Lane and on Riva Avenue because of the storm.

Residents are reporting to Patch via Facebook that traffic lights are out at Ryders Lane at Milltown Road, Stratford Road, Taco Bell and at Tices Lane and that there are wires down on the train tracks near the area.

Residents of Stockton Road, near Dunhams Corner Road, are reporting that their power has been restored.

PSE&G is reporting between 501 and 2,000 customers without power in the township as well. JCP&L is reporting just 5 outages.

PSE&G is reporting that about 10,700 PSE&G customers are without power due to this evening’s strong thunderstorms. Counties with the most outages are: Camden with 2,500, Middlesex with 2,000, Somerset with 2,000, Bergen with 1,600, Union with 1,100, and Burlington with 960.

According to the statement, the company has all available personnel and supplies on hand to restore power. Crews will be working through the night.

Strong winds are making repair work difficult by increasing the chances of downed wires and associated power outages. Customers are advised to stay away from all downed power lines. Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Do not approach or drive over a downed line and do not touch anything that it might be in contact with.

Via Twitter, Mayor David Stahl said the township the Office of Emergency Management is working with power companies to restore it as quickly as possible. He also said township employees are prepared to deal with any downed trees or other situations as they arise.

The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Middlesex County until around 8:45 tonight and a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m. The warning indicates the possibility of damaging winds, hail and lightning as the storm moves through.
