2 Percent Raise for Employees Approved by East Hanover Council

The contracts freeze terminal leave at 2011 levels.

The East Hanover Township Council approved two new employee contracts at their Monday, Feb. 4 meeting.

According to Administrator Joseph Tempesta, the contacts include a two percent raise retroactive to Jan. 1, 2012, with no raise in 2013 and a two percent raise again in 2014 and in 2015.

Additionally, terminal leave for employees was frozen at the 2011 level with no terminal leave for new hires.

Terminal leave is a practice which allows retiring employees to use their remaining leave or vacation time before they vacate their jobs.

New hires will also no longer get longevity pay under the new contracts, Tempesta said.

Police Promotions

Two newly promoted officers in the East Hanover Police Department will have new base salaries, Tempesta said.

Lt. James M. Snow, formerly Sgt. Snow, will be paid a base salary of $129,086 in his new position, which went into effect on Feb. 4.

Det. John A. Ambrose, now Sgt. Ambrose, will receive a base salary of $117,352.

Tempesta's contract and that of Police Chief Stanley Hansen are negotiated individually and are not included in these negotiations.
