Wine Tasting and Auction Raises Awareness of Genetic Disorder

Charitable event benefits FRAXA, a nonprofit working to find a cure for Fragile X Syndrome, a primary cause for autism.

For the third year in a row, a Florham Park couple will host a charitable event in an effort to help fund research into a cause of autism, the Florham Park Eagle reported.

Kira and Denis Shmuler host the third annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction to raise awareness of the genetic disorder Fragile X Syndrome, which affects their 11-year-old son, Colby. So far, the article said, the Shmulers have come up with close to $21,000, about half the funding required for one research project. The event's goal is to raise the rest to support the nonprofit FRAXA's efforts to find a cure for the rare disorder.

Celebrities scheduled to appear at the benefit include former New York Giants star and current sports radio host Tiki Barber and actor Dan Grimaldi from HBO's “The Sopranos.” The tasting and auction will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, at the Park Avenue Club, 184 Park Ave. Tickets are available online or by sending a check made payable to FRAXA to Denis and Kira Shmuler, 2 Nottingham Drive, Florham Park, N.J. 07932.
