Alleged Best Buy Shoplifter Identified By Police

Store employee watched man put DVDs in his shirt, according to police report.

The East Hanover Police Detective Bureauhas identified a man they believe

Patrolman Timothy Maglio responded to Best Buy on Sept. 28 at 3:20 p.m. on report of a shoplifting incident, according to a police report.

An employee at Best Bu told Maglio he observed a white male enter the store whomthe employee had seen shoplifting before, police said.

The employee followed the suspect on video surveillance and observed him putting three DVDs in his shirt, according to the police report.

By the time Reyes was able to call police, the alleged shoplifter ditched the DVDs and left the store without the merchandise, police said.

The alleged shoplifter fled the scene in a black Acura, the police report said.

Maglio searched the area for the vehicle but did not find it, according to the police report.

The alleged shoplifter was identified through his DMV photo as Codey Ruch of West Orange.

A copy of the video surveillance has been made for police and entered into evidence, and the case was turned over to the Detective Bureau, police said.

The investigation is still ongoing, and Ruch has not yet been charged, according to East Hanover Police Lt. James Snow.
