Man Showed Fake Badge in Attempt to Flee Crash, Police Say

East Hanover resident faces several charges after allegedly impersonating an officer following accident in Vermont over the weekend.

An East Hanover man is accused of pretending to be a New Jersey police officer while leaving the scene of an accident in Vermont over the weekend.

After the Saturday accident on Route 4 in Hartland, Vt., Scott Taylor, 41, of East Hanover, allegedly flagged down drivers and showed them a fake badge, saying he was a New Jersey police officer, according the Times Argus.

Taylor was arrested by Vermont State Police and was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, false information and impersonating an officer, according to the article.
