Board of Ed Will Reflect on Direction for Fields

Superintendent Carol Grossi thanked those who donated funds, time and effort to support the Hanover Park Regional referendum that was voted down Tuesday.

Many members of the local school communities were disappointed in the outcome of Tuesday's special election, and the Hanover Park Regional High School District Board of Education will need time to decide how to address the future of the district's fields, Superintendent Carol Grossi wrote in a letter to the community Wednesday.

Voters were asked to approve borrowing $17.5 million to improve the fields and outdoor athletic facilities at Hanover Park and Whippany Park high schools, a project school officials said is long overdue, but the measure fell short.

In the letter, Grossi invited suggestions on what should be done with the fields and thanked those who donated funds, time and effort to support the referendum.

The superintendent praised the district's staff and students, and said Hanover Park Regional's two schools are "moving forward in leaps and bounds in the academic, athletic and extra/co-curricular arenas."

Letter to the Community

Dear Community Member,

Unfortunately, the Hanover Park Regional High School District Athletic and Physical Education Field Master Plan Project Referendum on March 12, 2013 was defeated.  Needless to say, many of us within the school communities are disappointed.  Our students are looking forward to the day that they will have an opportunity to participate in athletic and band practices and games/competitions on updated fields.   The District Board of Education will need time to reflect on the project as it stands now and decide which direction they will take in regard to the future of the district fields.  If you have any recommendations, please feel free to email me at cgrossi@hpreg.org.

On behalf of the Board of Education, Administration, Staff and Students, I would like to thank all the individuals and groups who donated funds, time and effort to support the referendum.   I consider myself very fortunate to work amongst the best staff and the most hard-working student body in the State of New Jersey.  Our district is moving forward in leaps and bounds in the academic, athletic and extra/co-curricular arenas.  Please visit the article published in December 2012 when recent district test scores were reported to the public:  http://easthanover-florhampark.patch.com/articles/sat-scores-ap-participation-up-in-district-schools.  As always, thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Carol Grossi
