Community Rallies Around Hanover Park Grad Battling Cancer

A fundraising event was held at the high school on Tuesday to help former basketball player Matt Geisser, according to reports.

EAST HANOVER, N.J.– The Hanover Park gym was packed Tuesday as the community came out to support alumnus and former basketball captain Matt Geisser, who is battling a rare bone cancer, according to reports.

According to Tap into.net, all of the $24,000 that was raised went directly to the Geisser family.

Teachers, students and other attendees had their heads shaved at the gym's center court, the Daily Record reported.

The fundraiser was organized by boys basketball Coach Todd Hartmann, according to the Daily Record.

A GoFundMe campaign was set up for Geisser by one of his fraternity brothers.

"Matt is one of those guys that is willing to help anyone in need, so we, the brothers of Alpha Sigma Phi Towson Eta Omicron, have decided that it is time to help our brother Matt in his time of need," wrote Aaron Goldenberg, who created the campaign.
