This awareness campaign was spearheaded by Tim’s wife and Bridget’s mother, Pam O’Donnell, to “educate the public about the dangers of distracted and impaired drivers.”
“We all understand the need to work together to stop this problem, not just within our border, but county- and statewide,” a Florham Park Police statement read. “It is difficult to determine the ‘success’ of such a checkpoint. Do we want to arrest as many drivers as possible, or do we want to catch no one? Either way should be a victory. Getting impaired drivers off the road is always a win, saves untold lives, and validates why our officers are needed to do what they do, but being proactive enough to prevent impaired driving in the first place may be the bigger win.”
