East Hanover Man Accused of MMA Choke Hold Killing Wants Texts Suppressed
Charles Derr, 52, sent text messages to his daughter following alleged drunken altercation with his friend in 2012.

An East Hanover man accused of choking his friend to death in 2012 wants text messages he sent to his daughter detailing the mix-martial-arts move he used during the alleged drunken altercation to be suppressed at trial.
Charles Derr, 52, is charged with murder for allegedly killing Matthew Stilwell, 51, of Richboro, Pa., with a "rear naked choke hold" in July 2012 at his Poconos vacation home, according to the Pocono Record.
Derr allegedly text messaged his daughter after the incident, saying "I just choked out Matt. And he is snoring," the article said.
Derr still believed Stilwell was just sleeping when he woke up the next morning and texted his daughter again.
"Self-defense," he wrote. "He is still asleep and late for work. I realigned his neck and vertebra and you could hear the cracking."
Derr soon realized his friend was dead and notified police.
