East Hanover Sees Slight Rise in Crime
June 2013 saw a 4.9 percent increase in crime compared to the same month in 2012.
East Hanover saw a slight rise in crime this year compared to the first six months of 2012.
Total crimes reported from January to June 2013 were 107 incidents, compared to 102 in the same time period last year. Overall, that represents a slight increase of 4.9 percent.
The largest increase in year-to-date crimes were in assaults, from 7 incidents between January to June 2012 to 21 incidents in the same time period this year, an increase of 200 percent.
All this is according to the New Jersey State Police's uniform crime report, which releases crime statistics from municipalities throughout the state.
Decreases in crimes were noted especially in aggravated assaults and assaults with weapons, which fell from 10 incidents in the first six months of 2012 to only one so far this year while simple assaults rose.
Burglaries with unlawful entries also fell from three incidents between January and June 2012 to one in the first six months of 2013, a decrease of 66.7 percent. Forcible entry burglaries, on the other hand, rose from four incidents in 2012 to six in 2013, an increase of 50 percent.
