Florham Park 8th-Graders Awarded For Athletic, Academic Merits
Tyler Scaff and Sophia Reynolds were presented recreation awards by Mayor Mark Taylor for their outstanding achievements in sports and academics.
Opening Day at Florham Park's Baseball Club rang in the impending summer filled with sunny days, home runs, ballpark hot dogs and the achievements of two outstanding eighth graders.
Tyler Scaff and Sophia Reynolds were presented with the Fred Stobaeus and Lou Boyd awards, respectively, for their successes both on an off the playing field. Mayor Mark Taylor presented the awards to the students Saturday, April 26.
Students are awarded based on excellent sportsmanship, leadership, athleticism and academic achievement as well as being a good role model in the community.
Scaff, who won the Stobaeus award, is an honor student at Ridgedale Middle School who served as quarterback for the 2013 undefeated A-squad team in the Florham Park Falcon Football Club. He was nominated for his humbleness, excellence in a number of sports and his leadership skills.
Reynolds, winner of the Boyd award, is also an honor student at Ridgedale and played on both its soccer and basketball teams. She also served as goaltender for the Florham Park Soccer Association Team the Rockets, which went on to win the league championship while she was a player. She was nominated for her athletic skill, contributions to the classroom and sportsmanship.
