Student Artists' Work Displayed in Annual Exhibit

High school students' work will be published online and showcased at Kean University.

Artwork by two students from the Hanover Park Regional High School District, Fatima Tran from Hanover Park High and Abigail Sobieski from Whippany Park High, was submitted to the Art Administrators of New Jersey's (AANJ) Emerging Artists 25th Annual Art Exhibit.

The exhibit, including the artwork by Tran and Sobieski, will be published on the AANJ website, and will be showcased at Kean University through Feb. 3.

The Board of Education recently recognized Sobieski and Tran's achievements, along with the following:

The Hornet Sting, Hanover Park High's literary and arts magazine, was awarded one of 15 First Place Medals in the magazine category from the American Scholastic Press Association. The magazine competed against thousands of literary magazines from high schools from around the country. Glenn Martorana serves as adviser to the magazine.

Anthony DeSena, Julie Funesti, Katie Gordon, Dante Pasquale and Victoria Presser, all students from Hanover Park High, were all accepted into the New Jersey Region Chorus. Pasquale will be fourth among second tenors, and Presser will be fifth among second sopranos.

Hanover Park High student Michael Vitiello was recently ranked eighth in the North Jersey Region Orchestra on the viola.

Hanover Park High student Michaela Tricola was selected as a second place winner in the Voices of Democracy contest.

The Hanover Park High Dance Team placed third out of twelve teams in the Universal Dance Association (UDA) competition with their workout-themed hip hop routine. The team consists of:

  • Nicole Tassielli
  • Bonnie Zwigard
  • Gianna Tricola, captain
  • and Dominique Calabro, captain, who placed sixth with her Whitney Houston jazz dance solo.
