Snow Causes Early Dismissal Friday

Hanover Park, East Hanover and Florham Park School Districts all announced early dismissals in the face of the coming storm.

Area schools will operate on an early dismissal schedule Friday to ensure the safety of students, parents and staff as a snowstorm nears.

Hanover Park High School will both dismiss at 12:18 p.m., with no lunch being served for students. Whippany Park High School will close at 12:43 p.m., also with no lunch.

In Florham Park, Ridgedale Middle School will dismiss at noon. Brooklake Elementary and Briarwood Elementary Schools will dismiss at 12:50 p.m.

East Hanover Middle School will close at 12:45 p.m., and East Hanover Central will close at 1:10 p.m.

At Frank J. Smith Elementary School, preschools 3-2 and 4-1 will have no class. Preschool 3-1 will have class from 8:50 to 11:30 a.m. Morning kindergarten will be in sesion from 8:50 to 11:20 a.m.. There will be no afternoon kindergarten.

All other students at Frank J. Smith will have class from 8:50 to 11:20 a.m.

The National Weather Service warned of the coming nor'easter, which is set to begin hitting the area late Thursday night.

The storm could last through Saturday morning and bring 8 in. of snow or more, plus winds of up to 40 miles-an-hour.

The storm began in the coastal Carolinas, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), and the worst of it will hit the north Jersey area Friday.

NWS warns travelers to beware of travel delays.
