1 Dead, 1 Injured When Car Strikes Pedestrians On NJ Highway
The crash took place Sunday night, and the investigation is ongoing.
EAST WINDSOR, NJ – One pedestrian was killed and another injured in a crash that took place Sunday evening, East Windsor Police said.
Around 8:45 p.m., police responded to a crash on Route 33 westbound at the intersection with Twin Rivers Drive North.
According to preliminary investigation, Fausto Chacha-Pintado, 45, and Elena Mateo, 50, both of East Windsor, were crossing Route 33 when they were struck by Liana Abbate, 30, driving westbound under a green traffic signal.

The pedestrians had crossed Route 33 eastbound and were attempting to cross the westbound lanes when the collision took place, police said.
Both were treated at the scene by Capital Health Paramedics/EMS. Chacha-Pintado was airlifted by New Jersey State Police Medevac to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where they succumbed to their injuries.

Mateo was taken by New Jersey State Police Medevac to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment.
The investigation surrounding the collision remains ongoing.
