EAST WINDSOR, NJ — A five-vehicle collision Monday afternoon sent three people to area hospitals, including one driver who required extrication from his vehicle, West Windsor police said.

The crash occurred at 3:42 p.m. in the northbound lane of Old Trenton Road at the intersection of Colt Circle, police said.

According to initial investigation, a 2006 Toyota Scion driven by a 52-year-old Hamilton resident was traveling northbound when the driver failed to notice that traffic ahead had stopped. The Scion struck the rear passenger side of a 2011 Honda CRV operated by a 24-year-old Trenton resident who was stopped in traffic.

The collision set off a chain reaction. The Scion then hit the rear of a 2016 Nissan Rogue driven by a 39-year-old Trenton resident, forcing that vehicle into the southbound lane, where it sideswiped a 2020 Nissan Titan pickup truck driven by a 72-year-old Hamilton resident. The Scion continued forward, making slight contact with a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 36-year-old Point Pleasant resident before coming to rest.

The driver of the Scion became trapped in his vehicle and required extrication by emergency responders. He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center at Fuld, where he was listed in serious but stable condition at the time of the report, police said.
