Mercer Co. Announces Appointment Of Deputy 1st Assistant Prosecutor
James M. Scott III has served the County Prosecutor's Office for 23 years.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — James M. Scott III has been promoted as deputy first assistant prosecutor, Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey said
Scott joined the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office as an assistant prosecutor in 2002. During his 23 years with the office, he served as chief of the Economic Crime Unit, the Serious Collision Response Team, and the Homicide Task Force.
Serving in the Homicide Unit since 2007, Scott has led the investigation of more than 50 criminal homicides and tried 22 murder cases, including a six-week trial involving the death of a toddler. He also helmed six officer-involved shooting investigations.

As chief of the Economic Crime Unit for seven years, Scott investigated and prosecuted white collar crimes and public corruption matters, approximately 100 cases per year. He directed the public corruption investigation of the Trenton Water Works and led a joint task force investigating and prosecuting the New Jersey Top 100 Debtors with the state Department of Treasury Office of Criminal Investigation.
Prior to joining the prosecutor’s office, DFAP Scott was a litigation associate at Drinker Biddle & Reath, LLP, in Princeton. He also worked at Princeton University’s Plasma Physics Laboratory from 1991 to 1997 as an environmental engineer.

While Scott will continue to prosecute homicide cases, his responsibilities in his new role will expand to include general oversight of the Major Crimes units as well as assisting with formulating policy and overseeing investigations.
Community service has always been of the utmost importance to Scott. He has been a deacon at the Church of St. Ann in Lawrenceville since 2008 and has coached through the years for Lawrence Hamnett Soccer, the St. Ann School CYO soccer program, and the St. Ann CYO basketball team.
Scott earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Grinnell College in Iowa and his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law – Camden, where he was conferred the West Publishing Book Award.
He is admitted to the bars of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania, the District of New Jersey and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
