East Windsor Condo Devastated in Fire, Firefighter Suffers Smoke Inhalation

A fire gutted a Washington Court condominium this morning.

A condominium on Washington Court in East Windsor caught fire Wednesday morning. Police and firefighters responded to the reported fire at 10:36 a.m. when they observed flames coming from the roof. A short while later the second floor of the residence completely became engulfed in flames, according to East Windsor police.

The resident of the condominium safely evacuated the unit and fire personnel were able to extinguish the blaze. However, the residence sustained extensive  damage to the second floor including a wall that adjoins the neighboring unit, which is currently unoccupied, police said.

A member of the East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company #2 suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro for treatment.

The emergency responders that helped at the scene include: East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company #1, East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company #2, Hightstown Fire Company, Robbinsville Fire Company, Plainsboro Fire Company, West Windsor Fire Company, Millstone Fire Company, Hope Fire Company, Hamilton Station 17 Fire Company, Cranbury Fire Company, Monroe Fire Company, Princeton Fire Company, Capital Health EMS, East Windsor Rescue Squad District 1, and East Windsor Rescue Squad District 2.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the East Windsor Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
