3 Seriously Injured After Driver Runs Red Light In Edison: Police

​Authorities said the driver ran through a red light and crashed into another vehicle.

EDISON, NJ - A driver ran a red light and crashed into another car, causing serious injuries to a family in Edison early on Thanksgiving Day, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan said.

Around 1:31 a.m., on Thursday, authorities responded to Route 1 North and Parsonage Road following the report of a crash.

On arrival, authorities found two vehicles, one was occupied by Diego Mejia, 39, of Edison, along with his wife Jessica Naranjo, 35, of Woodbridge, and Mejia’s 15-year-old daughter. Mejia sustained serious injuries but is in stable condition, while Naranjo and Mejia’s daughter sustained life-threatening injuries and are currently in critical condition, Ciccone said.

The other vehicle was driven by Alyssa Figueredo, 31, of Cranford. Figueredo sustained minor injuries and was taken to JFK Medical Center for treatment.

According to initial investigation, Figueredo proceeded through a red light and struck the vehicle driven by Mejia.

Figueredo was charged with three counts of third-degree assault by auto and driving under the influence along with other traffic violations.
