5 Edison, Metuchen Area Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

Make your holiday special by donating to nonprofits and spreading cheer.

EDISON NJ — If you’re like many of your Edison and Metuchen neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Edison, Metuchen area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. REPLENISH, Middlesex County: REPLENISH is committed to eradicating hunger in Middlesex County. Through their network of over 160 organizations, they enable partners to wholly focus on feeding people and positively affecting more lives in more ways.
  2. It Takes A Borough: The mission of this nonprofit is to support Metuchen residents who are facing adversity. ITAB is dedicated to encouraging community solidarity, relying on financial contributions and tangible donations to create meaningful, positive impacts on members of the community affected by tragedy or unforeseen circumstances.
  3. YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge, South Amboy: A volunteer driven organization that serves people with various programs, such as child care, enrichment, fitness classes and more
  4. Court Appointed Special Advocates of Middlesex County: Each year, hundreds of Middlesex County children spend time in foster care. Often confused, frightened, and caught in multiple government systems, these children need dedicated, caring adults looking out solely for their best interests. By donating an average of just a few hours a week, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) make a real and lasting difference in the lives of these vulnerable children.
  5. Elijah's Promise: Since 1989, Elijah’s Promise has harnessed the power of food to break the cycle of poverty, alleviate hunger, and change lives. They operate a community soup kitchen, culinary arts school, a food truck which is a soup kitchen on wheels, and connect low-income individuals and families with social and health services.
