Amboy Avenue Redevelopment Plan Undergoes Amendments In Edison

This comes after suggestions from several residents. The ordinance was adopted 5-2

EDISON, NJ — The Township recently amended the Amboy Avenue Redevelopment Plan, after suggestions from residents.

The council approved the ordinance 5-2 during last month’s meeting.

According to the changes, the maximum height of all buildings has been set to 40 feet and 3 ½ stories with half a story for a roof deck.

Under the ordinance, current residential buildings can continue to be permitted to front along Amboy Avenue as long as the minimum width is 35 feet.

No new residential building will be permitted to front along Amboy Avenue. Meanwhile, office buildings can front Amboy Avenue as long as the minimum lot width is 50 feet, the ordinance says.

Additionally, retail sales and service spaces will be allowed one space per 300 square feet of gross floor area instead of one space per 250 square feet.

Parking in the rear yard is allowed regardless of lot width and parking on one side yard is allowable for lots with a minimum 70 feet of frontage.

The Amboy Avenue Revitalization Plan was passed in 2016 and aims to revitalize the downtown area by creating mixed-use developments.
