Black Bear Cub Spotted In Metuchen On Thursday

METUCHEN, NJ — A black bear cub was spotted in Metuchen on Thursday afternoon.

The cub was spotted near Central Square off Central Avenue.

Metuchen Mayor Jonathan M Busch has asked residents to be cautious and keep their distance from the bear cub.

"While it may be cute, remember: where there’s a cub, there’s likely a mama bear nearby—so please keep your distance," Busch said.

Metuchen Police are actively monitoring the situation and tracking its movement.

If residents see the bear, don’t approach it. They should call Metuchen Police right away at 732-632-8500.
