Cooling Centers Open In Edison Amid NJ Heat Wave
Colling centers are open at four locations in the township for residents to use as temperatures soar the next few days.
EDISON, NJ — With the heat index expected to cross 100 degrees in the next few days, Edison has opened four cooling centers for township residents.
Here are the buildings residents can use to cool off during the heatwave:
- Edison Senior Citizens Complex, 2963 Woodbridge Avenue
Hours: 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday - Edison Main Library, 340 Plainfield Avenue
Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday & Saturday - North Edison Library Branch, 777 Grove Avenue
Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday - Clara Barton Library Branch, 141 Hoover Avenue
Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday & Saturday
Forecasters are predicting "dangerously hot conditions," with heat index values around 110 on Thursday. Maximum temperatures will occur between noon and 8 p.m. each afternoon.

In addition to the stifling heat, a slight chance of late-day thunderstorms is possible each day this week, with a higher chance on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
