Drunk Driver Crashed Into Shopping Center: Edison PD

EDISON, NJ — A Colonia man who drove into the Inman Grove Shopping Center was drunk at the time of the crash, Edison police said.

James P. Durek, 68, faces several motor vehicle charges, including driving under the influence, following the Sunday morning crash, police said. Durek told police his foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas while trying to park near the Verizon store in the shopping center, police said.

Durek drove through the glass of the Verizon store, but the store was closed and unoccupied at the time.

Police say the smelled alcohol on Durek's breath, and a breathalyzer test lead to his arrest.
