Edison Elections: David Tingle Vows to Address Edison’s Ongoing Flooding Crisis

Residents Say Township Ignored Months of Complaints as Flooding Worsens

Every time it rains, the water rises higher and the township’s response sinks lower,” said one resident. “We’ve been ignored. Our calls and emails go unanswered. It feels like no one in power cares until it’s election season.

Mayoral candidate David Tingle is vowing to take immediate action to address the chronic flooding that has plagued neighborhoods across Edison and residents say repeated storms have destroyed property while township officials have done nothing.

For months, homeowners and small-business owners have filed complaints and attended council meetings pleading for relief. Yet, despite the mounting damage, no comprehensive plan or repairs have been implemented.

“Every time it rains, the water rises higher and the township’s response sinks lower,” said one resident. “We’ve been ignored. Our calls and emails go unanswered. It feels like no one in power cares until it’s election season.”

Yesterday, Tingle spoke with Larry Klempner, a longtime Meyer Road resident. Larry and his neighbors are dealing with flooding and broken curbs that the township claims are “homeowner responsibility.”

“That makes no sense,” Tingle said. “Those curbs are part of the street, and they are designed to move water to the sewer. If residents really owned that section of the road, could they block it off? Of course not. This is what happens when leadership refuses to take responsibility.”

Joshi’s response? Crickets.
Storm drains routinely back up, sending water into driveways and storefronts. Businesses report lost revenue, and residents face costly cleanups, insurance battles, and silence from Town Hall.

“Flooding in Edison is not a new problem, but it’s one that has been ignored for far too long,” said Tingle, an Air Force member and police officer known for his service and integrity. “Taxpayers should not have to live like this. We need leadership that fixes problems, not one that buries them underwater.”

Tingle’s Plan to End Neglect and Hold the Township Accountable

If elected, Tingle will:

  • Launch a township-wide Drainage and Flood Prevention Task Force within his first 60 days in office.
  • Audit and repair neglected stormwater infrastructure, prioritizing high-risk neighborhoods
  • Publish a public Flood Response Plan so residents can track repairs and hold the township accountable.
  • Work with state and county agencies to secure funding for long-term stormwater upgrades.

Tingle also called out the township’s double standard when it comes to priorities.

“These flooding issues will only get worse unless the township owns up to its responsibility and fixes our crumbling infrastructure,” he said. “Remember, they are the ones who allowed developers to overbuild Edison, and the politicians are the ones who benefited. Just look at Joshi’s campaign contribution reports.”

Tingle’s People Over Politics campaign focuses on transparency, fiscal responsibility, and fixing the everyday problems that affect working families.

“Edison doesn’t need more excuses; it needs results,” Tingle added. “We cannot keep spending millions on photo ops while families are losing their basements. This is what happens when leaders stop listening to the people they serve.”
